The German military cemetery in Maleme



The German military cemetery in Maleme (Deutschen Soldatenfriedhof in Maleme) is one of two cemeteries where the graves of German soldiers who died in Greece during the Second World War. The other cemetery is the German military cemetery Dionysus – Rapentozis in Attica.
The German cemetery is located near the airport of Maleme in Chania , Crete.
In this cemetery are the graves of 4,465 soldiers of the German Army , most of whom were paratroopers killed during the German invasion of Crete in May 1941. Cemetery was founded in 1974 by former German commanders Gericke. In this area are buried German soldiers of Crete .
Taking care of the cemetery is the Care Association of German War Graves (Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge eV), a private club based in Kassel , ordered by the German Government. The club has taken care of such cemeteries around the world .v
